serious problems

You may have a friend in serious trouble or even in danger—and that friend may refuse to tell anyone else what's going on. If you think the risk is high, you should go by yourself to tell someone else immediately. You should do this even if your friend has asked you not to, and even if you have promised not to tell.

This does not mean you have betrayed your friend. It's true that you may be jeopardizing the friendship, because your friend may feel you have broken a very serious promise. But even if your friend doesn't understand, you'll know you did what you had to do out of caring and love. You'll know that you had to tell someone else in order to protect your friend's health and well-being.

Find someone you trust or go to a teacher, a clinic, or a health care professional, and explain your friend's situation. The topics on this website may help you figure out what you need to do.

You might lose the friendship—but you may be saving your friend's life.
